Aeronautika

Prepare yourself for 60 minutes of heart-pumping, high-energy aerial artistry! Three unique aerobatic airplanes, flown by three of the best aerobatic pilots in the world, will dance in the skies over Moffett Field.

Soviet-era Sukhoi and Yakolev aircraft, and the venerable American Pitts Special biplane square off on a three-dimensional stage in the skies of Silicon Valley! Feel the speed, live the music, be part of Aeronautika, the Yuri’s Night Bay Area flight experience!

Live Performances

Last year our amazing team of live performers created some of the most memorable moments of the night. This year we're taking live performanes to new heights—literally!

Capacitor
Capacitor, San Francisco’s interdisciplinary dance company, has become renowned for their conceptually-rich and bound-breaking performances. Capacitor artists collaborate with members of the scientific community to create mind-expanding, heart-gripping live performance. Capacitor encourages contact with scientific concepts in ways which allow audiences to see patterns and relationships inherent in nature and the cosmos. Through performance, Capacitor personalizes large, abstract concepts and in doing so, transcends cultural barriers — widening the scope of basic human experience.

Space Fashion: Future Perfect
A fashion, music and dance event, featuring an introduction by quantum fiction novelist Vanna Bonta on the future of smart fashion and presenting a dynamic, avante-garde aerial dance by The Aerial Showgirls, whose dance performance will include amazing stunts to classic science movie themes and original aviation music. Rocketplane’s Chuck Lauer and Misuzu Onuki of The Space Fashion Organization will make a special international announcement and showcase award-winning space fashions from a Tokyo designer collection.

Win A Zero G Ticket!

The event is capped by the SpaceFashion.org Yuri’s Best Prize, with support from the Space Frontier Foundation and World Space Week — an on-site Fashion Contest with real-time voting for the 10 most fashionable people picked from the audience. This is the place for winners to strut the catwalk in outrageous spacewear, with prizes including a grand First Prize of a zero gravity flight (value $4,000) awarded to the winner.


Bella Gaia
An Experience by Kenji Williams
Inspired by astronauts who spoke of the life changing experience of viewing the Earth from Space, creative director and music producer Kenji Williams delivers a live audio visual performance that evolves our perspective of and connection to our home planet. Utilizing stunning HD projections of orbiting visualizations of Earth from Space accompanied by a live performance of Williams's trademark violin-electronica music, experience the beauty and miracle of planet earth like never before in this audio visual space show. Space navigation by AMNH Director of Astro-Visualization Dr. Carter Emmart, Executive Producer Alex Bowles.

Bad Unkl Sista
Bad Unkl Sista will be presenting multi-media performance art, fusing couture costumes, wearable arts, sculpture, physical theater, butoh and installation work through fantastical otherworldly characters and environments. Bad unkl sista aims to probe into the human internal landscape, suspending, for a moment, the judgment of reality and offering a journey into a lucid dream that is a celebration of imagination.

The VonStilt Family
Once wealthy plantation owners from the little know country of Zweezerland, a country entirely situated below sea level, the displaced VonStilt Family was forced to leave from their homeland during The Great Asparagus Famine of 1974. Today the VonStilt Family strives to reach a new audience and bring to light the pitiful plight of their countryman. Now using their natural attributes to entertain and educate, this vagabond family travels the globe in search of elevated adoration from the hearts and minds of ardent admirers and perhaps maybe even a home...

Miguel Angelo
Miguel Angelo is a gravity defying act of superhuman hand to hand balance, jaw dropping strength, stupendous body control and mezmerizing flexibility. Watch these tales become reality!

Flowtoys
Flowtoys: Flowtoys will be presenting a number of flowshows throughout the evening mesmerizing you with their light entertainment. They will enchant you by the world's only electroluminescent floating wand, enthrall you with dancing LED "fireflies" and dazzle you with a magical light dance show.

Visual Artists

2007 featured Kosho spinning light into space on the main stage, Rabbit in the Moon with a luminescent space montage projected onto NASA's Kuiper Observatory airplane, and Celestine Star bringing out roll after roll of inspiring documentary and historical footage. This year's lineup will feature old favorites as well as some exciting new additions. Stay tuned!!

Award-winning poet, novelist and film artist (The Beastmaster, Demolition Man, Beauty and the Beast) Vanna Bonta is editor of The Cosmos Review, a literary magazine celebrating space through poetry. Bonta has flown in zero gravity and an entry competing in the lunar lander X Prize was inspired by and named after a fictional spacecraft in her novel FLIGHT.

Aerial Showgirls Jessica Lindsay, Sasha Harrington and Cheri Geist have performed in the United States and Europe, choreographing and performing numerous venues including aerials with Carmen Electra. The professionally trained aerialists with diverse dance backgrounds present an enticing show full of amazing aerial stunts.

Space Fashion Organization director Misuzu Onuki is a creative space advocate and joins forces with Rocketplane to showcase their special Space Fashion announcement and celebrate Yuri's Night and the anniversary of the space shuttle.
